Well that's CERTAINLY an interesting Connection! I did not know that. I feel that my wealth of knowledge has grown.
There's another fact as well that links the two. (I'll go so far as to say I knew about this with Lassie, didn't know it about Flipper.)
Well then, that makes it obvious. Both animal characters were the opposite sex from the "actors" that portrayed them.
