P: Elvis "Return to Sender"
E: Neil Sedaka "Breaking Up Is Hard to Do"

Connestion: Um. Well, they're both about breaking up. Also, Elvis did a cover of Sedaka's Solitaire.

...which is, itself, about a breakup.

Correct on both identifications, Kit! We're looking for a closer Connestion...er, Connection.

I'm sorry, Kit...I didn't quite catch that last post you made; you were breaking up.

All right. I know Sedaka wrote a song called "Carole" about Carole King, and --as you have a penchant for name-connestions-- I'm going to say that she (Carole King) connests to Elvis (The King). I'll even push one step further and postulate that "BUIHTD" is actually about her. I know she had an album by the same name, so I think I'm probably right.

Heh. "Oh Neil"

Ah, I love it when they get vaguer and vaguer.

Also, Elvis Presley had a brother named Jesse. Jesse James was a famous criminal. Criminals sometimes commit what are called "strong arm" robberies. Neil Armstrong is a famous astronaut. Neil Sedaka has the same first name.

Or not. The Connection here is very specific, and has nothing to do with the names of the artists or the names or lyrics of the songs. Once more into the breech!

The changes are the same (on guitar for example, you can play both with the same four chords in the same order).

Also didn't they come out in the same year?

Ted Hobgood said...

Ah! Interesting observation on the guitar chords angle---the PCQOTD is always so educational!

You're on the right track about the year...can you get even more specific?

They were both #1 hits in 1962.

Both titles have been turned into movies as well.

Elvis sang many Sedaka songs.

"The song is 'Norewegian Wood', and the Rolling Stones employ a fellow by the name of 'Ron Wood'."

Connestion: Ted loves getting vaguer and vaguer.

Boom! Kit got the quotes, and Corey nailed the Connection, the hits of 1962. Even more specifically, they were the #1 and #2 hits for that year overall, according to Billboard.
