PCQOTD : 4-10-06

Plebian:
"To boldly go where no man has gone before."

I felt bad that this was too easy, so you have two Erudites today, but each one has the same two Connections to the Plebian quote.

Erudite 1:
"You rang?"

Erudite 2:
"Well, possum on a gumbush!"

E1: "You rang?"

I reckon that's Lurch, although I guess there're possibilities.

P is from the opening voiceover of ST:TOS, of course.

Lurch and Trek are correct. One more quote, and two more Connections.

E2 looks like it could be from The Beverly Hillbillies. The connection could be that all three were TV shows that were made into movies..?

Good guess on E2, Ben, but that's not quite it. It is "hick", though.

And that is one of the two Connections they all share; they all were tv shows made into movies. One more Connection unites them all.

WAG for E2: The Dukes of Hazzard.

Ted Hobgood said...

True. And one final Connection remaineth.

Well, Ted Cassidy (Lurch) appeared in a few ST:TOS episodes, but imdb doesn't place him in anything Dukes related.

So it must be:

Carolyn Jones, Catherine Bach, and Nichelle Nichols all necessitated mondo private time for the youths of Hoopgod's generation

I have never lusted after Catherine Jones or Nichelle Nichols. (Although I have seen Uhura naked.)

Try again, boyo.

How's this for a stretch: Ted Cassidy provided both the narration and the growls in the opening credits of The Incredible Hulk, which preceded the Dukes of Hazzard on CBS from 1979-1981.

Then you've got the whole Lurch thing, which is nice.

Add that to the previous mentioned star turn in Star Trek, and you've got WAY TOO MUCH TIME ON YOUR HANDS TO FIND ALL THIS CRAP.

I mean to say, you've got a connection.

I'm pooped.

Uhura, or Nichelle? Got any wealth you can share?

RWH said...

Dang, I thought I had it when I saw that Fred Freiberger wrote for TDoH, but no Addams connection, dagnabbit.

Ted Hobgood said...

Interesting attempt, Ben. I had no idea Ted Cassidy growled for the Hulk.

Here's a hint: the second Connection is along the same lines as the first Connection.

Aha! They all came back to the small screen as pale shells of their former selves!

Ted Hobgood said...

In what special format?

RWH said...

Cool, my bluff was right enough to get pointed at the true answer: they all came back as animated features.

Ted Hobgood said...

Yes; Star Trek, The Addams Family, and The Dukes of Hazzard were all 1) made into movies, and B) made into atrocious Saturday morning cartoons.
