PCQOTD : 7-26-06

Plebian:
"Badder than old King Kong, meaner than a junkyard dog."

Both Erudites share the same Connection to the Plebian.
Erudite 1:
"We stand today on the edge of a new frontier."
Erudite 2:
"Man has climbed Mount Everest, gone to the bottom of the ocean. He's fired rockets at the Moon, split the atom, achieved miracles in every field of human endeavor... except crime!"

Okay, I'm going to New York for a week, so there won't be any PCQOTDs until next Wednesday. Today's Connection is, therefore, a tricky one. A very tricky one. Like, impossible. Like, "QI" impossible. Good luck. I'll check back with you in a week.

P: "Bad Bad Leroy Brown" by Jim Croce
E1: John F. Kennedy accepting the Democratic Party nomination for the presidency, 1960
E2: Auric Goldfinger, from 007 movie "Goldfinger"

Connestion:
Croce was flying to Louisiana for a concert, and was due to arrive in Dallas the next day...but his plane crashed and he died.
Auric Goldfinger was on a presidential jet and got sucked out the window and he died.
JFK died in Dallas...and his son died in a plane crash.

My reasoning can't be stretched any farther.

I don't want reasoning! I want ANSWERS! [insert random Khrushchevian banging of shoe on table here]

Okay, this one is unfair. Just unfair. Far too hard and obscure. Here's a hint that won't help much: has to do with something mentioned in the Croce song that is linked to something from the day Kennedy died and something belonging to Goldfinger.

[gets in car and drives off into the sunset...er, New Jersey]

All three (Leroy Brown, Kennedy, and Goldfinger), when pulled from where they fell, looked like jigsaw puzzles with a couple of pieces gone.

the Lincoln Continental

Good LORD, Jackson! How did you manage to get that one?!? Lincoln Continental it is! I thought this one was far too hard, but somehow you managed to puzzle it out. Kudos to you, sir.

For those following along at home:
P: Mentions "a Lincoln Continental" belonging to the title character.
E1: The limo Kennedy was riding in when assassinated was a customized Lincoln Continental.
E2: Goldfinger smuggled his gold in custom-molded parts from a Lincoln Continental.

Applause to Mr. Golliher.
